Relationship Therapy and Couples Counselling
If you are experiencing difficulties within your relationship, or something just does not feel quite right and you are feeling unsettled or unhappy, don’t suffer in silence. In couples therapy you will be encouraged to openly share your concerns regarding your relationship with your partner in a safe, comfortable non-judgemental environment.
Together we will focus on gaining clarity about what you both want from your relationship. You will learn skills to improve communication between you both, and gain an understanding of your partner and their needs within your relationship. If you decide to remain together we will explore any changes that need to be made to encourage a healthier relationship and work towards rebuilding the sense of connection that you had when you first met. Should you decide to end your relationship then our work will focus on achieving this as amicably as possible.
It is natural for any relationship to change and evolve over time, often for the better but sometimes for the worse and a sense of love and connection may be lost. Life events and milestones such as starting a family, infertility career progression, loss of employment, grief, loss and bereavement, children leaving home, affairs, retirement. ill health as well as substance or alcohol use or other addiction can all have an impact.
Many couples experience difficulties in the following areas:
- Managing conflict
- Communication (not feeling understood or listened to)
- You may not feel your partner is meeting your needs;
- Emotional, physical and sexual intimacy
- Emotional dependency
- Ageing and sex
- Affairs and lack of trust;
- Other family members impacting on the relationship with your partner
To enhance my knowledge and skills to be able to work competently with couples I have undertaken post-graduate training Certificate in Working with Couples (Juliet Grayson and Mary Clegg).
