About Online and Telephone Counselling
Where Distance makes no Difference
Online therapy provides the opportunity to access professional counselling and EMDR therapy from the comfort and convenience of your own home or private space of your choosing regardless of geographical distance via free video conferencing software such as Google Meet and Bilateral Base.
During your sessions I have your best interests at heart at all times so it is important that you feel comfortable and in control with how the sessions are arranged to best meet your needs and in the way that you will feel most comfortable.
I have received very positive feedback from clients who value the benefits of online counselling saving time and money travelling to appointments. I have observed that clients are frequently more relaxed without the additional stress of being delayed in traffic, finding the clinic or a parking space, etc.
Business executives and other professionals who work away from home appreciate the flexibility that online counselling offers where they are able to continue counselling regardless of their location, and clients who are employed or self employed appreciate the convenience of incorporating a counselling session into their lunch break without the need to travel.
Online counselling can be less anxiety provoking for those who get anxious or nervous in new or unfamiliar environments, or when travelling. It is also convenient for those with physical health conditions such as chronic pain, breathlessness, ME, and fibromyalgia who may find travelling to a clinic painful or exhausting. Telephone and online therapy is ideal for those who are self-isolating or feel nervous about face to fact contact due to the risk of Covid-19.
I appreciate that many clients who are unfamiliar with video conferencing can feel apprehensive and nervous but I wish to reassure you that I am here to support you with the technological side of joining an online meeting, and if it simply is not for you then we can explore other avenues of communication.
Due to the restrictions of face to face working due to Covid-19 I have undertaken specialist training in online and counselling so that clients can be rest assured that I am working competently.
For those clients who feel self-conscious using the video, then it may be possible to turn the video off and we will work via the microphone or arrange telephone sessions instead.

What sort of issues can I contact you about?
Online counselling may be able to help with a wide range of issues including abuse, anxiety, stress, depression, eating disorders and disordered eating patterns, loneliness, relationship problems, bereavement, self-esteem and more.
There are, however some occasions when online counselling may not be appropriate and I will advise you if face to face counselling, or some other form of support might be more suitable for you and make every effort to assist you in finding a suitable alternative source of support.
Practicalities of online counselling
It is important for you to consider where you would be able to undertake online counselling. Ensure you are in a private place where you feel comfortable and able to talk freely and openly without being overheard or disturbed by others. Some clients who find it difficult to have privacy within their home use their mobile phone from the privacy of their car or other private space where they feel comfortable. It is useful to have pen and paper ready in preparation for your session, as well as a glass of water or cup of tea or coffee.
I work from my private office at home with the door firmly closed and wear headphones.
I regret I am unable to provide online counselling to anyone under the age of 18.
